So i've been learning to play Monk in PvP recently and i've pretty much got casting on my 40/40 set and switching to my shield sets down but I don't really know under what circumstances I should be switching my high high energy set. I mean ideally you wouldn't use it at all but what kind of situations merit switching?

I would assume it's for casting expensive prots with a direct swap back to 40/40 or shield set. I don't monk PvP enough to really know

I'd also like to hear the answer to this.. I have a high energy set but I just never use it. The only situation I can think of is when you run out of energy on your 40/40 set, so switch to your high set to keep your team alive for a bit longer, and hopefully they'll be able to win before you run out of high set energy.

You guys are right on the ball. The high energy set is really an oh crap set there to give you the energy to keep the team up when things go totally wrong. Perhaps your team pushed too far into the enemy base and is taking too much pressure, you may have to swap to your high set to keep everyone up while you retreat. Or perhaps you are facing a hexway team and need that extra energy to keep people alive while you retreat into your base. It really isn't a set you want to use if at all possible. Remember, you can gain/hide energy by moving into your 40/40 set from your shield set and moving from 40/40 back into your shield set.

As for the expensive prot idea, normally you have a i think it's 20/40 prot staff which you use for your prots. It has an enchanting mod and the rest are hsr/hct mods.

This is near enough the reason. However they're only really effective in GvG/AB, i can't comment on HA.

You use it once your normally energy pools depleted. Either to keep your team alive long enough to pull back with minimal deaths, or to keep your team up as the other team is about to take deaths too. Then your team plays defensively if both monks are in high set, or if one monk's energy is fine the one in high set relaxes his casts a bit to get back into 40/40.

In RA it's just delaying the inevitable as you don't get chances to relieve pressure off your monk much, or a break, but it can hold you up a bit longer til the other team takes deaths. HA i think is the same in most situations, though i don't play it much so could well be wrong.

This is exactly the reason why you would have a high energy set. If you run out of energy you can't just sit there and let your team take damage while you wait for energy. So you change to high energy set getting +30 energy so you can fast heal till channeling (since you are a monk) lets you back to max energy which means you go back to 40/40 or your sheild set/ low energy sets.

Other uses for high energy sets depends on your profession...the only other one that would really use it is a shock warrior that switches to it to use shock.

If you never use your high energy set then your team is good at not getting that much dmg, or your prot monk is amazing (depending on where you are playing RA or HA)

Never stay on your High set either. Only swap to the set, cast, and then swap back to your shield set so you're back on defensive mods and also back to 4 pips of energy regen. Never a smart move to stay on 2 pips of regen when you're using your high set for the very reason of having low energy.

Also, don't die on high set
